
Online Notary Public (Remote)

Position Overview
LawDepot is currently expanding and looking to recruit an Online Notary Public. You will be responsible for completing remote, online notarizations for our United States–based website users and providing feedback to help improve our platform. While we also serve Canadian customers, this position is dedicated to supporting our U.S. users. This is an independent contractor role, performed remotely. Hours include daytime, afternoon, and weekend shifts. Compensation ranges from $5–8.00 for the first notarial act and $2–4.00 for each additional act. We are also exploring opportunities to offer additional pay when Notaries serve as witnesses.
Primary Responsibilities
- Complete the notarization of customer documents
- Verify the authenticity of important documents while working remotely
- Explain the notarization procedure to clients and ensure customer satisfaction
- Review and verify signer’s identity according to applicable commissioning state’s requirements
- Ensure the signer’s understanding of the document and willingness to sign
- Review documents for completeness and certificate wording
- Administer acknowledgement and jurat notarial acts
- Record the notarization in a digital notary journal as required by state law
- Certify the authenticity of signatures on important legal documents
- Provide feedback to the notary team on features, improvements, and bugs
- Utilize an account portal to manage communication with users
- Maintaining certification as mandated by state
- Assist with testing and quality assurance, when needed
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- More than 6 months of experience in a Remote Online Notary Public role, handling confidential and private customer documents
- Valid Electronic Notary Public certification in Virginia
- Commissioned Notary Public in Virginia
- Strong attention to detail
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Technically savvy – ability to learn internal tools and new software
- Dependable attendance and punctuality. Reliability is critical.
- Well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to resolve standard document issues with minimal assistance
- Must have $25,000 error and omission insurance coverage (EOM)
- Must have a working desktop computer, webcam, microphone, and high-speed internet connection
