What is a person of "good moral character"

A person of "good moral character" relates to an individual who conducts himself/herself in a manner which meets the standards of average citizens in his/her community. An applicant must show that he or she has been a person of good moral character for the statutory period (typically five years or three years if married to a U.S. citizen or one year for members of the Armed Forces) prior to filing for naturalization. Involvement in serious criminal activities will typically prevent you from being classified as a person of good moral character.
