Strange Laws from Around the Country

Like a lot of people, I’m fascinated by some of the unusual laws that are still on the books. Many of them appear to have no reason for existing, and others are broken on a daily basis by people who likely didn’t even know they were violating the law.
Of course, someone obviously thought that there was a good reason for passing these laws at one point. Maybe you can figure out the logic behind some of these odd laws.
- In New York, it’s legal for a woman to be topless in public, but not to wear “body hugging clothing.”
- Peacocks have the right-of-way to cross any street in Arcadia, California.

- Beer and pretzels don’t go together in North Dakota; they can’t be served together in any bar or restaurant.
- Make sure that you don’t go stepping on any bugs in Fayetteville, Arkansas—it’s illegal to kill “any living creature.”
- You’re not allowed to dye ducklings blue and then sell them in Kentucky, unless you’re selling more than 6 at a time.
- If you notice a lot of foul-smelling people in Indiana during the winter, it’s because baths are illegal between the months of October and March.
- Unmarried women cannot go fishing by themselves in Montana. Married women are allowed, unless it’s a Sunday.
- In South Berwick, Maine, it’s illegal to park in front of Dunkin Donuts.
- And, finally, one for our Canadian readers: it’s illegal to climb trees in Canada.
